The state wants to imprison people for inaccurate filling of declarations. Fines at the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption are considered ineffective

The Criminal Code should provide for sanctions in the form of imprisonment for deliberate inaccurate declarations in the amount of more than 500 living wages (today it is 1 million UAH).

Only under such conditions, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption sees the possibility of effective work and calls the restoration of criminal liability for failure to submit a declaration or the introduction of deliberately false information into it as one of the main tasks of the Verkhovna Rada.

The presence of a punishment in the form of imprisonment for inaccurate data in the declarations, according to officials, will be an effective tool for preventing corruption. The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption notes that officials, realizing their possible responsibility, will receive specific motivation to fill in the declaration in good faith. However, the fine does not scare them in any way, since a corrupt official can pay for it at the expense of funds obtained in dishonest ways.

At the same time, imprisonment, according to the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, is a sufficient and fair punishment to ensure the necessary preventive effect.

To make this position more convincing, the Agency refers to the experience of the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Moldova and Peru, where the sanctions for such offenses reach eight years in prison.
